Lockheed Martin Mechanical Engineer in Littleton, Colorado
The Spacecraft Design Thermal Engineering will be responsible for performing preliminary and detailed level thermal design and analysis on spacecraft components (RF and Power Electronics) and subsystems (Antenna, Propulsion, etc.) using standardized processes and tools (Thermal Desktop, SINDA, TRASYS, NX, and/or IDEAS TMG, TSS). Other related responsibilities include providing technical memos and input to data packages to support peer and customer reviews, presenting resultant design and analysis data to the spacecraft design/engineering team, customer technical representatives, and Program Office personnel at technical exchange meetings and formal design reviews; providing thermal engineering support for multi-week TVAC testing, and working interactively with diverse engineering disciplines in a fast-pace commercial environment to develop cost-effective solutions to thermal control requirements which satisfy producibility objectives defined by Manufacturing and Quality.
Basic Qualifications Candidate should be able to demonstrate: Thorough knowledge of heat transfer and thermodynamics, particularly related to GEO and LEO space applications. Proficiency (Minimum 2 years experience) with Thermal Desktop and SINDA; creative/innovation to solve issues related to anomalous performance of any aspect of the spacecraft thermal system; Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). TVAC test setup and monitoring experience. Excellent communication skills (technical writing and presentation), dedication to Mission Success. Ability to obtain a TS/SCI Security clearance, or prior clearance.
Desired skills Proficiency with the LM standard thermal software codes: NX TMG, TSS. Spacecraft TVAC testing experience, including TP development, instrumentation definition, and test direction, as well as post-test model correlation. AI&T Operations and Launch (ATLO) experience including support of thermal hardware installation and inspection of passive and active thermal control features and thermal station support during transfer orbit operations. Cost performance measurement experience. Ability and willingness to perform technical tasks with limited budget, requiring occasional extended hours.
