Lockheed Martin RF Engineer for Spacecraft Communications Staff Member in Littleton, Colorado
_Littleton, Colorado_: This position will support the Deep Space Exploration Mission Operations group within Space Systems Company as the Telecom subsystem lead of Origins Spectral Interpretation Resource Identification Security Regolith explorer (OSIRIS-REx) during the primary mission, performing and leading subsystem operations engineering tasks. Specific subsystem tasks include producing predictions of subsystem performance during future operations, monitoring real-time telecom subsystem performance, trending subsystem performance, analysis of problems and documentation of problems and corrective actions. Provide subsystem inputs to systems engineering for spacecraft sequence development and review the resulting sequences for correct operation of the subsystem, for both nominal and special event sequences. Review test results from spacecraft test labs and simulators for proper use and functionality of telecom elements. Maintain a database of current and long-term subsystem trending and performance data. Maintain and update software tools for sequence review, performance prediction and other tasks. Support team meetings and periodic reviews. Training and leading other Telecom engineers to support the OSIRIS-REx mission. Working irregular work hours in support of science activities. Supporting other Deep Space Exploration flying missions as needed.
Basic Qualifications - Five or more years of experience with Telecom or other RF/Microwave systems. - Minimum 5 years’ experience with Deep Space Exploration spacecraft supporting spacecraft operations on a NASA-managed mission. - Ability to work irregular work hours in support of planned science activities - Familiarity with microwave RF subsystem design and hardware - specifically receivers, exciters, transponders, couplers, hybrids, RF switches, isolators, attenuators, antennas and waveguides. - Experience in performing RF link analysis and prediction, as well as RF subsystem performance analysis. - Experience in a satellite operational environment, including troubleshooting link problems and determining root causes to link anomalies in real-time. - Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, interacting with other subsystem experts, systems engineers and customers in a timely and effective manner. - Familiarity with programming, particularly in C++, PERL, or MATLAB, with knowledge of other scripting languages a plus.
Desired skills - Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, with an emphasis on Communications Systems or RF/Microwave engineering. - Experience with the NASA customers including JPL and the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center customer. - Experience with Deep Space Exploration Telecom subsystem operations, tools, procedures, and operation and standards of the Deep Space Network. - Proficiency in creating and maintaining operational procedures and tools. - Able to work well in a team environment. - Ability to interact with other subsystem experts, systems engineers and customers in a timely and effective manner. - Programming ability in C++, PERL, and MATLAB, with knowledge of other scripting languages a plus.
