Lockheed Martin Additive Manufacturing Engineer in Orlando, Florida

Lockheed Martin Training Logistics Solutions line of business is seeking a mechanical design engineer to work in the Production Engineering Organization. The candidate needs to be passionate about advancing additive manufacturing technologies for end use production and help shape the core capabilities offering of TLS Advanced Manufacturing Group.

The candidate has to be proficient in CAD modeling, product design, and knowledge of advanced manufacturing technologies. The candidate must be highly skilled in solid and surface modeling techniques including Spline creation, 3D Sketching, Surface Lofting, Boundary Surfaces, Shelling, Advanced Fillets, Hybrid Solid modeling, and Surface editing and manipulation. This position requires coming up with creative and ingenious solutions to solving complex design and manufacturing challenges in a dynamic team environment. The successful candidate will have the ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner; gather and analyze information skillfully; develop alternative solutions; work well in group problem-solving situations.

The primary responsibilities of the candidate is to: 1) Examining existing product and bill of material structures, identify candidate parts ideal for producing using advanced manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing, urethane casting, and vacuum forming.

2) Develop detailed mechanical designs to produce identified parts using alternate production methods available both in-house and with external suppliers. Utilizing CAD programs, laser reverse engineering scanner, and manufacturing equipment in AM lab, develop and prototype solutions to prove viability of AM design concepts. Collaborate and engage with various engineering disciplines (design, manufacturing, research, hardware, systems) in arriving at acceptable solution.

3) Communicate design and advanced manufacturing approaches with various stakeholders: cross-departmental teams of engineers, program and functional leadership. Gather, prepare, and analyze cost data for comparative analysis of the various manufacturing methods.

Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in mechanical product design and CAD modeling

Proficient in CAD software, CREO or Solidworks

Knowledge of Additive Manufacturing Processes and technologies

Reverse Engineering knowledge and ability to convert digitized (scanned) data into parametric CAD models

Desired skills Knowledge of material properties, science, and behaviors for application of additive technologies

Ability to travel 5-10% of the year to domestic and international locations

Effective interpersonal communications with proven ability to lead, critical thinking, acts strategically, build organizational capability while achieving results

Familiarity with Training and Simulation Products for Military DoD applications
