This position reports to the Vice President, and Deputy of Engineering & Technology.
The Director of Engineering Excellence has overall enterprise leadership to ensure effectiveness in engineering reviews, continuous improvement, engineering processes, engineering measures, affordability, and producibility in our products and services. In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of engineering activities at all offsite locations and ensuring the flow of information and technical expertise is maintained; specifically is responsible for management of engineering activities in the Archbald, PA and Ampthill, UK offsite locations. The Director of Engineering Excellence will serve as the primary interface with other MFC functions (Production Operations, Global Supply Chain, and Quality) to ensure effective integration, coordination, and communication.
The Director of Engineering Excellence will champion the expansion and improvement of engineering technological innovation, agility, talent development, processes, and tools. This position also supports development of engineering vision for engineering excellence, continuous improvement, affordability, and producibility and chairs the Continuous Improvement Board (CIB) using the results to make systemic improvements in E&T processes in collaboration with functional directors and Chief Engineers. Manages the execution and program unique tailoring of the overarching engineering processes (the Product Development Process) as well as any needed modifications to that process.
The Director Engineering Excellence will have one-over responsibility for the Archbald and UK off-sites and must ensure that these technical engineering organizations have the people, processes and tools for cost effective operations consistent with program requirements. Responsibilities also include developing the team’s knowledge and core competencies to support present and future business and ensure the transfer of knowledge within those off-sites, maintaining one-over responsibility for the long-term career and skills development of all employees and direct reporting management, maintain one-over responsibility for program success and Engineering processes. Responsible for maintaining a “Future Focus” and exemplifying and promoting the technical, process and people excellence that results in satisfied customers. Support collaboration of off-site personnel with appropriate “on-site” personnel to improve performance and maintain consistency. Must develop and maintain effective relations with other site technical leadership, Line of Business leaders and management. This position can be based out of Grand Prairie, TX or Orlando, FL.
Basic Qualifications Demonstrated Full Spectrum Leadership to include Diversity and Inclusion practices. Must have demonstrated ability to make critical decisions, set priorities, and provide succinct direction in a dynamic and ambiguous business environments and have the ability to think and act strategically and tactically. Must have a thorough understanding of Engineering & Technology design disciplines and processes and experience with the full product lifecycle from early development through sustainment. Must have a demonstrated track record developing multiple innovative solutions. Experience in the overall product development process, with demonstrated experience in understanding requirements and translating design specifications into customer value.
Must have led a significant team with both technical and people management responsibilities. Track record of above average performance. In addition to broad technical knowledge, this role requires familiarity with manufacturing, supply chain, quality and business planning. Must have the ability to manage in a matrix environment, extremely strong communication skills, strong organization skills, strong leadership skills, ability to delegate, and strong business acumen. Must possess an enterprise level, big picture perspective.
Ability to obtain a secret security clearance. Ability to travel regularly
Desired skills Broad leadership experience in multiple technical programs (ie Chief Engineer, Program Manager, senior IPT lead). Direct experience in managing across organizations, business areas and geographically dispersed locations. Experience with and understanding of the development and test/integration of combat vehicles, missile system technologies, missiles and fire control systems. The ability to support aggressive cost and performance goals as well as the ability to find ways to take cost out of existing products while still meeting performance requirements. Proven ability to improve processes to increase agility and allow greater innovation while still reducing the costs of those processes. Lean Six Sigma training. Experience with proposals. Experience working in a production environment. Excellent oral, written, communications and organizational skills at the Executive level.
Active secret clearance or higher.
