The geospatial software engineer will work in a robust flight simulation environment with cutting edge hardware & systems. This exciting work will include providing system concept definition and requirements derivation for “game like” simulation and training program improvements. The work will include design, development and documentation of technical workflows to incorporate latest geospatial data sets and technologies to create accurate immersive environments for modern military aviation training. This work will also include analysis of visual data base requirements and visual database tool requirements. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, the engineer will have the opportunity to work with imagery, height maps, and vector data, fusing them together into immersive 3D worlds. The engineer will collaborate regularly with other team disciplines in an effort to share best practices and make design suggestions. This individual will develop and integrate technically advanced, innovative, and cost-effective solutions consistent with the future architecture requirements of the flight simulation training business area. Relocation: Relocation assistance is available for this exciting position. The Locale: Orlando is a city in the Central Florida area. Central Florida is a great place to live with lots of attractive residential housing available. The Greater Orlando metropolitan area is the sixth largest metro area in the southeastern United States. The climate here is warm and sunny all year long for the most part. Orlando is home to the University of Central Florida (UCF), Walt Disney World, and SeaWorld. Where can you get to from Orlando? Orlando is about an hour's drive from Cocoa Beach and the "space coast" to include NASA and the Kennedy Space Center. Tampa is about 1 and ¼ hours from Orlando. West Palm Beach is about 2.5 hours to the south and Jacksonville is about 2 hours
Basic Qualifications Basic qualifications for this position will include a BS Degree in Geography, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience/combined education and 2 years of professional level experience or 0 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Experience working with database toolsets (commercial or proprietary) such as Presagis's Terra Vista or TerraSim's Terra Tools is required. Experience with GIS, geography, maps, geospatial concepts, 3D content, elevation data, imagery, or airport scene data is required. Experience working with correlated databases is required. Strong organization skills are required. Strong verbal & written communications skills are required. The ability to collaborate effectively is required. *Must have ability to obtain a secret security clearance
Desired skills Direct experience in one or more of the following areas is desired: Image Generation system, hardware or software simulation design; visual/multispectral/terrain database design and/or generation, or simulator display design. Experience with any of the following tools is desired. ESRI ArcInfo, ESRI ArcGIS, Presagis Creator, GlobalMapper, Adobe Photoshop, Corel Paint Shop Pro, Rockwell Collins ECT, Boeing MMRS Formatter, Altova XMLSPY, and/or Image Magik. Prior experience working with airport data such as Pictometry, GeoSketch, OpenFlight, Digital Maps, CADRG, Or DAFIF would be a plus. Experience in terrain modeling for thermal and/or radar sensors would be a plus. Experience in modifying/developing tools/workflows for database production is desired. Experience with shell scripting languages such as Python is desired.
