Our Systems Engineering teams are involved in all phases of program life cycles, from supporting and shaping proposals to developing requirements and architectures, to decomposing those architectural elements into constituent hardware and software elements, testing and deploying systems, and supporting our customers in the sustainment to delivered products.

From an Avionics point-of-view our Lockheed Martin Owego site has opportunities for involvement in the integration of avionics equipment on multiple fixed and rotary wing aircraft including MH-60R/S, A-10, VH-92 Presidential Helicopter, Air Force Future Combat Rescue Helicopter (CRH), C-130 (multiple variants), and P-3 Orion.

From a computer / IT networking point-of-view we're supporting activities more widespread than your typical IT administrator set-up functions. Our team supports activities across multiple platforms, multiple different subsystem types and network architectures.

We are looking for a Senior Systems Engineer for our Owego, New York campus location. The systems engineer will provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, and practicable, and consistent with organization objectives. The Systems Engineer in this position will require a complete understanding, and have opportunity for wide application, of technical principles, theories and concepts, in the systems engineering field and, will have general knowledge of other related disciplines.

The systems engineer will work in an engineering and production environment with cutting edge hardware & systems. This exciting work will include developing requirement specifications, and other design artifacts for the successful integration of avionics subsystems onto fixed and/or rotary wing platforms. The systems engineer will support systems integration for various military avionics and aerospace platforms. The systems engineer will routinely interface with various engineering disciplines to include hardware, software, reliability, human factors, and other engineering professionals. The systems engineer will have an opportunity to drive systems engineering efforts and keep on-top-of new and evolving industry best practices.

This unique position will focus on both Avionics systems and networking. The role will cover aviation communications systems to include a mix of military and civil radios, satellite communications, intercommunications systems and the integration of these systems on airborne platforms. Related opportunities to support the integration between traditional avionics communications systems and on-board IP-based network systems will likely be another focus of the role.

The Locale: Owego, New York is located about 200 miles northwest of New York City and about 75 miles south of Syracuse New York. Owego sits just north of the border with Pennsylvania and is part of what's known as the "Southern Tier" section of New York State. The region is home to Binghamton University and Cornell University. Basic Qualifications Basic Qualifications for this position will include: • A BS Degree in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, industrial engineering, or closely related technical field or equivalent experience/combined education and 5 to 8 years of professional level experience. • Experience with requirements development, system design, problem analysis and resolution, and/or integration and test is required. • Sufficient technical knowledge to grasp and leverage related engineering concepts and technologies required to perform assigned tasks and responsibilities is required. • Sufficient network troubleshooting skills to perform effectively is required. • Hands-on experience with mobile networking components or wireless technologies or cellular networks is required. • The ability to work effectively in a team environment and actively participate with team efforts is required. • Strong verbal & written communications skills are required. • Applicants selected will be subject to government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Desired skills • Ability to translate customer operational requirements into lower level technical requirements needed to define mobile converged IP network solutions is desired. • Ability to load and configure routers, firewalls, switches and servers as required to meet system level capabilities is desired. • Familiarity with IP-based call managers, conference bridges, video conferencing, network acceleration techniques, quality of service (QoS) techniques, bandwidth management, virtual LANs, virtual machines and network encryption is desired. • Experience with multi-level security domain networks, cross domain guards and Information Assurance controls and guidance is beneficial. • Experience with modeling and simulation, and research and development would be a plus.
