Lockheed Martin Machinist - Numerically Controlled Milling Machinist - 1st Shift in Palmdale, California

Sets up completely and independently all types of numerically controlled machine tools such as multiple head continuous path milling machines, numerically controlled lathes, and point-to-point machine tools, operating such machine tools for initial runs and tool try, or to make runs on complex parts, where it is required to exercise a knowledge of computer numerical control (CNC) controls including processing controls and pull down menu systems, manual mode controls and selections, control intervention and over-rides and machine shop theory, of machine capacity, of the machineability of materials used, and of applicable inspection requirements; determines sequence of machining operations; devises unusual machining methods as required to machine an acceptable first article per specifications; improvises and adapts tooling in order to fully utilize all functions of the machine and to minimize the number of setups and amount of machining required. May require certifications. Performs rework of the level of difficulty of the operations described above. Establishes operating parameters and sequences, sets up, encodes, adjusts and operates computerized numerically controlled machine tools to perform a variety of machining operations in manual or automatic modes. Utilizes a computer work station and applicable software to perform varied tasks such as part layout which may be downloaded into the machine controller to produce machined parts. Checks material, cutters and available references for accuracy and completeness. Makes and/or checks layouts on parts as required. Pre-sets cutters as required. MACHINIST - NUMERICALLY CONTROLLED MILLING MACHINE (Continued) PERFORMS SUCH RELATED DUTIES AS: (Continued) Recognizes improper functioning of equipment, takes corrective action or reports trouble to responsible personnel. Performs satisfactorily any function of the Numerically Controlled Skin Mill Operator and Numerically Controlled Milling Machine Operator, Senior classifications as required. Standing: Requires full time standing with limited resting periods and to walk distances. Sit for extended periods if required. Heights: Able to work at heights. Able to work off of step stools, and lift platforms. Overhead work: Able to work overhead as required. Weight restriction: Able to Lift/push/pull/carry a minimum of 30 lbs Body positioning: Able to twist/bend (neck or waist) and stoop. Able to work in awkward positions as required. Able to squat/kneel/crawl/reach as required.

Basic Qualifications - Four years of experience or equivalent in the operation of numerically controlled milling machines. - Experience with Blueprint Reading II and Practical Shop Math. - Experience with Microsoft Office Suite products.
