Lockheed Martin Manufacturing Engineer Sr in San Luis Obispo, California
This position will be part of the operations group on the Fury and Desert Hawk Unmanned Air Vehicle programs for Lockheed Martin Unmanned Integrated Systems (LM-UIS). LM-UIS is located in San Luis Obispo, CA (on the beautiful Central Coast). Selected candidate will be expected to interface with the Programs, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Quality, and Support functions across the program. Job will involve manufacturing engineering activities in the capture, launch, as well as execution phases of new programs. Initially responsible for execution of manufacturing and producibility trades and the development of manufacturing plans on the Fury and Desert Hawk programs that encompass methods, tools, systems, equipment and workforce requirements. Must be pro-active, self-motivated, and maintain a positive attitude while working within a team of diverse skill sets. Coordinates with Production Operations, manufacturing supervision, Engineering and Quality Assurance to ensure on schedule, on cost processing of all products through product build phases. Will conduct production and process problem solving to support Corrective and Preventive action activities. Will contribute to the program manufacturing plans and tooling approaches while incorporating lean manufacturing practices and continuous improvement using process control (SPC) and other tools. Works assigned tasks to meet overall team long term objectives with minimal direction and guidance from leadership with review upon completion of task. The candidate will create imaginative, thorough and practicable solutions to problems that are consistent with organizational objectives through a wide application of Advanced Manufacturing technical principles, theories and concepts. The candidate will represent the operations organization through involvement in cross organizational projects whose impacts will affect multiple organizations. Additional duties will include, but are not limited to the following: • Designs manufacturing processes and work instructions, procedures and production layouts for assemblies, equipment installation, processing, machining and material handling. • Develops and maintain labor estimates for manufacturing and production processes. Will be challenged to work to on continuous improvement for both labor and quality in those areas. • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout. • Designs sequence of operations and specifies procedures for the fabrication of tools and equipment and other functions that affect product performance. • Adapts machine or equipment design to factory and production conditions. • May incorporate inspection and test requirements into the production plan. • Inspects performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency, and investigates and initiates corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality. • Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control, and may develop those techniques. • Provides guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques • Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. • Evaluates and approves design changes, specification and drawing releases.
Basic Qualifications - Strong interpersonal skills to deal with various disciplines, suppliers, team mates and customers. - Familiarity with major assembly, composite structure, vehicle systems installation relative to manufacturing methods, tooling and technologies. - Strong communication, presentation, and customer service skills.
Desired skills - Experience with UAS - Experience with avionics assemblies, cables, or circuit card assemblies - Knowledge and experience with MRP system. This could include but not limited to EBOM/MBOM setup, configuration, routing and synthetic part setups. - Demonstrated ability to work closely within Design, Shop Personnel, Quality Assurance and Supply Chain teams. - Ability to manage multiple priorities and multiple tasks simultaneously in a team environment - Knowledge in general engineering principles and manufacturing (fabrication & assembly) processes - Knowledge and application of Lean manufacturing principles - Experience with manufacturing plans, process specifications, and procedures - Previous experience with new program launches.
