Lockheed Martin Structural Engineer Sr in Stratford, Connecticut

The job opening is for a structural analyst in the transmissions structures group. The analyst conducts stress analysis and determines the fatigue life of various components including housings, gears, shafts and splines. The job also involves the use of fracture mechanics, thermal analysis and fluid mechanics. The analyst supports the development of new aircraft designs, fatigue testing, flight testing, and field support of existing aircraft fleets. The primary tools used are classical stress analysis, ANSYS, and CATIA. Other tools used are MatLab, CALYX, LDP, and Excel. The job requires excellent problem solving and communication abilities. Each task typically requires a clear and concise reporting of results in written or verbal form. Analysts are often required to interface with others in cross-functional teams and must be effective in that environment.

Basic Qualifications Bachelors degree from an accredited college in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience/combined education, with 5 years of professional experience; or 3 years of professional experience with a related Masters degree. Considered career, or journey, level.

Desired skills Professional experience in the structural analysis or design of transmission systems or components such as gears, shafts, and bearings. Post-graduate academic work on transmissions related topics. A Background in the use of CALYX, LDP, or other transmission-specific analysis tools. An understanding of gear manufacturing technologies and gear materials.
