Lockheed Martin System Safety Engineer Staff in Huntsville, Alabama

The System Safety Engineer will perform tasks associated with the THAAD Integrated System Safety Program Plan - as it applies to Ground Systems software development and release. Responsibilities include review, track, and assess software changes for hazard impacts, maintain and update software safety hazard analyses, and document software safety analyses. Develop and maintain analysis tools to trace software safety analyses to software development and software change products. Develop and validate tools that extract information from databases and output readable formats for Customer review. Applicant should be familiar with systems engineering and software engineering fundamentals to include software design, software development, and unit test. Applicant will ensure that safety is designed into software products - and that controls are incorporated and remain effective - assuring compliance to safety requirements. In addition, ensure that residual risks are identified, accepted, and documented. The System Safety Engineer also performs the following tasks: * Prepares presentations and participates in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Program Management Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review panel meetings. * Supports the development of System Safety documents to support Customer, Range Safety, and contractual requirements. * Reviews and approves test procedures for adherence to System Safety requirements. * Participates in the testing of safety critical software units.

Basic Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Computer Science or Engineering related discipline. * Experience in software development and a basic understanding of relational database design concepts. * Proficient in the use of MS Office applications (i.e. Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). * Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills. * Resourcefulness, creativity, and the ability to take the initiative in development and completion of work projects under minimal supervision. * Must be able to interface with Customer and Program Management. * Must be able to work occasional overtime in support of weekend and off-hour activities.

Desired skills * Ability to perform software hazard analyses. * Proficient in object-oriented software development using ADA, C/C++, and/or Java. * Working knowledge of Windows, Unix, and/or Linux. * Demonstrated knowledge and application of System Safety design and operation safety principles to include experience with hazard identification, analysis, risk mitigation and associated deliverable documentation. * Basic understanding of MIL-STD-882 and demonstrated knowledge supporting full program life cycle System Safety products and analyses, to include flight and ground systems for flight test and operational end-item hardware. * Knowledge of change management and configuration control processes. * Knowledge in scripting languages such as Perl and Shell scripts. * Experience developing in Windows XP/7 and Redhat Linux. * Experience in Eclipse Integrated Development Environment and Microsoft Visual Studio * Experience in utilizing tools such as DOORS, Summit, RoseRT, ClearCase, and ClearQuest.
