Lockheed Martin Senior Research Scientist, Lasers and Nonlinear Optics in Louisville, Colorado
Lockheed Martin Coherent Technologies is seeking a Research Scientist in the area of lasers and nonlinear optics (NLO). Job responsibilities include:
• Perform the research, analysis, design and development of new laser and nonlinear-optical technologies, techniques, and systems. • Perform technical writing for reports and proposals, prepare and deliver presentations, interact with team members and customers, and both lead and support technical development projects. • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, internal and external customers, suppliers and other stakeholders. • Perform other duties as necessary.
The successful candidate will have strong analytic and communication skills and work well in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.
Basic Qualifications Expertise in solid state lasers and nonlinear optics modeling, design and development. Excellent communication skills. U.S. Citizen with willingness and ability to obtain Security Clearance.
Desired skills Experience in laser and NLO modeling code development from first principles. This includes expertise in custom modeling of laser gain dynamics, thermal effects resulting from these gain dynamics, diffraction analysis of laser resonators and optical beam trains, nonlinear frequency conversion techniques (harmonic generation, sum frequency mixing, optical parametric amplification, etc.) and various other nonlinear optical scattering processes (Raman Scattering, Brillouin Scattering, etc.).
Hands on experience in the research and development of advanced laser systems and nonlinear wavelength conversion technologies.
Strong mathematical and physics background with ability to apply to complex modeling and analysis problems.
Knowledge of optical physics and design, including principles of geometrical optics, physical optics, and Fourier optics.
Experience in performing hardware design, assembly and test for laser and NLO systems.
Experience in the use of optical and RF electronics test equipment, e.g. oscilloscopes, RF spectrum analyzers, optical spectrum analyzers, cameras, detectors, power meters, beam profile diagnostics, etc.
Knowledge of data acquisition and analysis techniques.
Experience with LIDAR or other optical remote sensing methods.
Working knowledge of opto-mechanical engineering principles, including optical component mounting techniques, thermal management, tolerancing, and manufacturing.
Experience in commonly used software modeling tools and programming languages, such as Matlab, LabView, C++, Zemax, SNLO, Code V.
PhD in relevant field of science and engineering from accredited college or university.
