Kit Engineer / Kit Checker:
Seeking an experienced aerospace/mechanical design engineer for a Kit Engineer / Kit Checker position at Sikorsky’s Stratford, CT facility in the Aircraft Design and Manufacturing Engineering (ADME) organization as a member of the ADME Core Services staff. The ADME Core Services group supplements ADME’s technical engineering expertise with a best-in-class design quality engineering (DQE) capability enabling the design/development organization to excel in meeting its business objectives. The selected Kit Engineer/Kit Checker candidate will be responsible for ensuring kit drawings (i.e. Mod Kit, Prod Mods) are structured properly and comply with all applicable sections of the Sikorsky Engineering Procedures and Design Drafting Manuals (EPMs/DDMs).
Experience in aircraft mechanical design and drafting, including creating production / modification kit drawings and 3-D models and/or 3-D model based designs (MBD) using CATIA V5 in an LCA environment, electronic bill of materials (BOMs), and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems is required. The ability to work with legacy data (e.g. mylars, 2-D CAD) as necessary and interpret and apply geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) is also a requirement.
The selected candidate must be able to work closely with a variety of engineering disciplines in a cooperative Product Development Team environment and apply Sikorsky procedures and Engineering Standard Work (ESW) instructions as applicable.
The selected candidate will work under the guidance of a Senior Kit Engineer / Kit Checker. Assignments will include checking field modification and production modification kits submitted by all engineering functional organizations.
Basic Qualifications The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications: • BS in Engineering • Minimum of 5-7 Years of airframe experience; added experience in electrical/avionics is a plus • Demonstrated technical leadership in airframe detail part, tool design, and fabrication • Experience in aircraft mechanical design and drafting, including creating production modification kit drawings and 3-D model product definition using V5 in an LCA environment, electronic bill of materials (BOMs), and product lifecycle management (PLM) systems is required. • Experience with CATIA V4 is a plus • The ability to work with legacy data (e.g. mylars, 2-D CAD) as necessary and interpret and apply geometric dimensioning & tolerance (GD&T) is also a requirement. • Knowledge and practical application of ASME Y14.5 and Y14.100 requirements is preferred. • Experience with Sikorsky design guidelines, Design and Drafting Manuals, Standard Work • Ability to take on additional quality initiative responsibilities (e.g. continuous improvement).
